The difference between the Georgia Railroad and Banking Company and the Georgia Railroad Company is not always clear. According to a stock brochure (folder 3-1-10) the Georgia Railroad Company was incorporated in 1834, and the name was changed to Georgia Railroad and Banking Company in 1835. Regardless, both names were being used in the 1870's. Records were generally arranged according to letterhead used. In addition, the first series contains more records of financial matters (such as stocks) while the second has more records relating to the running of the railroad.
